We love books, and we love to read together as a family! As a mom, I’ve learned that books are a gateway to many amazing conversations and ideas. Sometimes books open the door to teaching us how to become better. In an effort to learn how to show our thankfulness, we checked out a lot of different books about gratitude.
Below you can see a list of some of our favorite books about gratitude and being thankful. There are many sweet stories about cultivating a thankful heart, and I want my children to learn the importance of expressing gratitude regularly.
10 Kids’ Books about Gratitude
- The Blessings Jar, by Colleen Coble
- Thanksgiving in the Woods, by Phyllis Alsdurf
- Thankful, by Eileen Spinelli
- Bear Says Thanks, by Karma Wilson & Jane Chapman
- A Very Thankful Prayer, by Bonnie Rickner Jensen
- God Gave us Thankful Hearts, by Lisa Tawn Bergren
- The Thankful Book, by Todd Parr
- Little Squirrel’s Tale About Being Thankful, by Trace Moroney
- Thanks for Thanksgiving, by Julie Markes
- Just So Thankful, by Mercer Mayer
Each of these stories shares unique characters who learn about being thankful and present children with a model for how they can be thankful too. Illustrations in children’s books may be my favorite aspect of reading to little ones, and all of these books have great illustrations, in addition to their meaningful messages. I hope you’ll take some time during this holiday season to read some of these books with your kids.
This time of year is a beautiful opportunity to focus on gratitude. As you read these books with your little ones, I hope they’ll generate thoughts about how to teach your kids about gratitude. Nurturing a thankful heart is a lifelong skill that will bring endless amounts of joy into each of our lives. I hope you and your loved ones will enjoy these kids’ books about gratitude together.
Sincerely,
