10-Minute, Simple Makeup Routine for Going Out

June 29, 2019      Sarah Van Wagenen

When we get to have a night out together, or I get to have a Girls’ Night, I like to spend at least a few more minutes on my makeup routine. I like trying a lot of different products to find what I like best, and thought I would share a simple, 10-minute routine I like to follow for those special occasions when I get to dress up a little.

8 Steps to a Simple Makeup Routine

1. I start with a basic BB cream. I don’t usually use foundation, but BB cream is kind of a mix between foundation and moisturizer. It still provides a little bit of coverage, makes my face look more even-toned, but isn’t too thick or heavy. Here’s my favorite one, I use light/medium, and apply with a liquid foundation brush, I love this 3-piece set, Real Techniques Cruelty Free Travel Essentials Set.

2. I like the ease and convenience of using the E.L.F Instant Lift Brow Pencil in taupe, to quickly fill in my brows.

3. For a neutral eye, I prefer the Revlon Colorstay Creme Eye Shadow in creme brulee, is a great color and choice. You can apply with your ring finger or with the shade side of these eye shadow brushes. The Revlon Colorstay Cream Eye Shadow in chocolate, is great for applying on the outside corners of your eyelids for some pretty definition. Again, you can use your fingers to apply it or, the smudge or define ends of these eye shadow brushes.

I also love the palette, Addictive by Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow Quad. It has great neutral colors, and it’s long-lasting! There are 8 different palettes to choose from, so you can find your best eye shadow combination.

4. I love using the Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner. It is so easy to apply, goes on smoothly, and doesn’t smudge easily. I recently tried the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lacquer Eyeliner, Blackest Black, and it’s my new favorite! I heard incredible reviews and a lot of good things about this eyeliner, but was intimidated at the idea of applying eyeliner with a brush. This is the first time I’ve been able to get the perfect wing tip look, and this eyeliner lasts all day. You do need to clean off the brush that’s included between uses, so that it glides on easily.

5. I’ve tried a lot of different mascaras over the years. Recently, I have loved L’Oreal Paris Makeup Lash Paradise Mascara and Maybelline Colossal Volumizing Mascara in Glam Black.

6. I love using highlighter! The Wet ‘n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder looks so good. I apply it on my cheek bones, down the bridge of my nose, on my cupid’s bow, between eyeshadow and eyebrow, and temples. You can use this brush, or the domed shadow brush from the 3 piece set I shared above.

7. I really like the Baked Milani Blush in Luminoso! It’s perfect for a very natural looking pop of color, I think I want to try out the Dolce Pink, for something a little less subtle thought, I’ll let you know how that goes.

8. I have felt disappointed about so many lipsticks and glosses, but a few years ago I found the Maybelline 24 hour SuperStay. It is amazing!! It’s usually about $7 and comes in so many beautiful colors. It really stays on all day and doesn’t transfer. For an everyday look I love Timeless Toffee, More, More Mocha, Constant Cocoa, or Loaded Latte. For something a little more bold I love the Keep Up the Flame, All Day Cherry, or Everlasting Wine. Sometimes a solid lip color is all you need to feel well-dressed, and ready to go out. Make sure before applying this that you don’t have any other product on your lips. Also, wait until the color has dried before putting on the silky smooth top coat.

If you are looking for a basic makeup bag, this one in blue is gorgeous.

Sincerely,

Sarah

If seeing Yellowstone’s wildlife is on your bucket If seeing Yellowstone’s wildlife is on your bucket list, don’t skip these two places!

📍 Hayden Valley + Lamar Valley, Yellowstone National Park

These are two of the best places in Yellowstone to spot wildlife and they’re completely different experiences!

🦬 Hayden Valley
Located in the heart of Yellowstone, Hayden Valley is famous for bison, elk, bears, coyotes, and sometimes wolves. The wide-open landscape makes it easier to scan the hillsides and riverbanks for animals. It’s also a beautiful drive with plenty of places to pull over and take in the views.

We drove through this area in the evening on our way out of Yellowstone and saw bison, a grizzly bear, deer, and elk. We even got to see a baby bison nursing. So special!!

🐺 Lamar Valley
Often called the “Serengeti of North America,” Lamar Valley is one of the best places in the park to look for wolves, bison, pronghorn, bears, and other wildlife. Get there early, bring binoculars, and watch the hillsides carefully—you never know what you might spot!

👀 Our biggest tips: Wildlife is wild, so sightings are never guaranteed. Look for groups of people stopped along the road (while following all park rules). Bring binoculars or a camera with a zoom lens, and animals are most active before 9 AM or after 4 PM.

📌 Save this for your Yellowstone trip!
