It’s official, I’m a plant lady, and I have to say my house plants bring me so much joy! I used to be the person that killed all the plants I bought. Now I know a lot more about how to keep them alive and thriving. I wanted to share some of what I’ve learned, so here are some tips for growing healthy house plants.
3 Tips for Healthy House Plants
Nothing kills the vibe of indoor house plants more, than spending more and more money while killing more and more plants. There are a few basic ways to avoid losing all your plants, and I’m here to tell you house plants are worth the time and money. Not only are they a beautiful addition to any room, they’re also great at naturally filtering and purifying the air in your home. Growing plants indoors doesn’t need to be overwhelming. By following these simple tips, you’ll become as much of a plant person as I have in the past few years.
Tip #1 for Maintaining Healthy House Plants
Know your plants’ needs, specifically how much water and how much light each one needs. This might seem very general, but the truth is that each type of plant thrives under specific circumstances. Some plants, like one of my favorites, the Snake Plant (Sanseveria), only need to be watered once every 2-4 weeks. Similarly, house plants all need different amounts of sunlight. There are several apps that you can download to help you learn the specific needs of your plants. Check out Plant and Blossom, where you can add which house plants you own, and you’ll get scheduled reminders for when to water and how to properly care for your indoor plants.
Tip #2 for Maintaining Healthy House Plants
Regularly use a fertilizer for your indoor plants to provide them with necessary nutrients. This used to be a step I avoided, because it made me so nervous that I was going to ruin my plants. Instant Plant Food makes feeding indoor plants a breeze, and it’s an important step to keeping your plants healthy. Every tablet is pre-portioned, so once every 3 months, all you have to do is drop a tablet in water and water your indoor plants. This plant fertilizer is specially crafted by the owners who have decades of professional horticulture experience. They took the hard work out of it and created a tablet full of the most important nutrients for house plants.
With the holidays around the corner, a house plant bundled with Instant Plant Food would be an incredible gift to give. Make sure to order here and use my promo code BLOSSOM20 for 20% off orders of $25 or more. Using these tablets for the past few months, I’ve been able to notice the difference they make in helping my indoor plants grow and look healthier. If you’re looking for the ultimate plant lovers bundle, I recommend gifting a plant, Instant Plant Food tablets, and this beautiful (and highly functional) indoor watering can.
In addition to this tip, I’ll add a bonus tip. Repot your plants periodically. If you’re taking good care of your plants, they will grow. As house plants get bigger, their root systems needs more soil and more space. Make sure you give them new soil and a new pot to fit their needs.
Tip #3 for Maintaining Healthy House Plants
Choose the plants that best suite the lighting in your home and the lifestyle that you lead. Some homes are filled with windows and natural light; others are not. That doesn’t mean you can have healthy house plants, it just means you need to be strategic. Also, based on your lifestyle, there may be certain plants you get and others that you avoid. As a family, we love to travel. Sometimes we’re gone from home for extended periods of time, as a result I’ve chosen a lot of plants that don’t require daily upkeep. Another bonus tip here, invest $3 in the Target self-watering planters for the plants you have that need more regular watering. These are incredible!
Have you fallen in love with plants in your house? What are some of your favorite plants? Our new house has a lot of windows and beautiful natural light, so I look forward to adding to our plant collection over the years. I like to stick to plants I’ve had long-term success growing inside, but will keep learning about other types to find ones that will best suite our home and our lifestyle. I hope you’ve learned some basics for how to grow healthy house plants. Remember it doesn’t need to be overwhelming. The experts have done the heavy lifting, just do a little research, pick the best plants for you and your home, use the right fertilizer, and you’ll be on your way to a home filled with healthy plants.
Sincerely,
