I’ve loved reading fruit and veggie books with my kids! It gets them so excited for gardening season, and they are more excited to eat healthy foods. Plus, there are just some really cute kids’ books about gardening, fruits, and vegetables. Here are a few that we’ve really enjoyed.
12 Fruit and Veggie Books for Kids
Apple Cake, a Gratitude, by Dawn Casey. A book full of gratitude from a little one for everything nature has to offer. Eventually, they gather all the ingredients for something special, an apple cake.
The Magic of Me My Magical Foods, by Becky Cummings. The beautiful illustrations and familiar faces from previous books in this series, teach children how fruits and vegetables come naturally from the Earth. It also teaches them they’re the healthiest, best foods to eat!
We are the Gardeners, by Joanna Gaines. Of course, a favorite for the cute story of kids learning about how plants grow. Also, the illustrations are just the best!
Talia and the Rude Vegetables, by Linda Elovitz Marshall. A clever play on words, “How can a vegetable be ‘rude’?” Talia wonders, when she mis-hears her grandmother asking her to gather “root” vegetables for stew.
Little Pea, by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. I’ve shared about this series before, because it’s so cute and funny! The little pea, just wants to eat his favorite treat, spinach, but can’t until he clears his plate of candy.
Fruits and Suits, by Jared Chapman. This is written by the same author as Vegetables in Underwear, and is so silly. We get lots of laughs reading both of these books. The fruits show how much fun swimsuits can be.
Vegetables in Underwear, by Jared Chapman. We always get so many laughs from reading about vegetables wearing underwear. It’s clever and cute.
Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds. Another hilarious book, with Jasper Rabbit who eats carrots all the time, until they start following him.
Vegetable Soup, by Judy Freudberg. This is a relic from my past, and one of the cutest books about how to make yummy soup with all sorts of great veggies.
The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear, by Audrey Wood. This is a classic! Little mouse loves, red ripe strawberries, but so does the big hungry bear. The humor and ending are so good.
A Fruit is a Suitcase for Seeds, by Jean Richards. A non-fiction book, teaching kids all about how fruit is designed to protect seeds on their journey.
Fruit Bowl, by Mark Hoffman. My kids love this book and we all learned a lot too. A very cute way to explain about the science of fruits versus vegetables, without seeming dry or boring, at all.
With the coming of Spring, we’re getting so excited to start our garden! Reading these kids’ books about fruits and veggies is a great way to get ready for the new season. They also familiarize my kids with healthy foods more, and help us all want to do a better job of eating these delicious foods. Hopefully you and your little ones will enjoy these cute books too!
Sincerely,
