We’ve lived in Birmingham, Alabama for almost 4 years now, and we love it here! Kurt and I love good food (and good treats), so here’s a list of some of our favorites in the area.
8 Best Dessert Places in Birmingham
- Cookie Fix, will always be our very favorite! Just the best cookies I’ve ever had; crispy on the outside, doughy in the middle, so many unique flavors and combinations. A Birmingham dessert staple. We love stopping by to pick some up after playing at Homewood Central Park, just down the street.
2. Steel City Pops, another Birmingham staple. We have so much fun customizing our own popsicles. The fruit flavors are ultra refreshing too! We’ve been known to pick some up after playing tennis, hiking, or for a special poolside treat (they do package them perfectly to grab to-go). There are multiple locations, but when we play tourists and take family or friends around, we like to stop at the Homewood location before or after visiting The Vulcan.
3. Bandit Patisserie is a bakery unlike any other I’ve been to. They have such specialty items, including my personal favorite, their Rosemary Caramel Shortbread sandwich. Everything from there is delicious! You have to order online and then pick it up at Pepper Place where Birmingham has a Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.
4. Smoosh Cookie, a delicious place for an ice cream sandwich! We love going to the Explore Playground & Splash Pad in Hoover, and following it up with a treat from here. It’s fun for the kids to pick out the toppings they want and they love getting an ice cream sandwich or cone.
5. Cookie Dough Magic, I mean who doesn’t love eating cookie dough?! The treats are yummy and great, and the vibe is really fun! Their huge Cookie Dough Magic mural has a pink, velvet couch right under it for the perfect photo spot!
6. Birmingham Breadworks, another incredible bakery that’s downtown. Everything we’ve tried from there is amazing! We love stopping by for a treat and picking up some of their freshly made bread and/or rolls for dinner. Another great photo-op, they have a gorgeous, sunrise mural painted on the side of their building.
7. Big Spoon Creamery, in Homewood and Avondale, has every ice cream option you could ask for, including a local favorite, the Brambleberry Sammie (Brambleberry ice cream between two brown sugar cookies). I can personally vouch for this combo, it tastes so good!
8. Mountain Brook and Edgewood Creameries, both great locations. These are full service ice cream parlors with cones, cakes, splits, and shakes. They have enough choices to please everyone.
