Christmas vacation has always been my peak reading time. I much prefer curling up next to the fire with my blanket and a good book, than doing almost anything else. In honor of my favorite holiday pastime, I wanted to share some of my favorite Christmas books. Some of them are completely focused on Christmas stories, some just are perfect to read at this time of year. Also, some of these are classics, and some I’ve enjoyed for the first time this year. Hopefully, you’ll find a few you haven’t read before to enjoy over the Holidays!
Christmas Books for Adults
Last Christmas in Paris by Hazel Gaynor & Heather Webb. I read this one last year, as recommended by my sister, and it is one of my very favorite books now! Such a good read!
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Of course a classic! I’ve loved Little Women for as long as I can remember. I grew up with 3 sisters, and my Dad always called us his Little Women. This one has such a special place in my heart. It’s not specifically Christmas, but it does have such a Christmas-y feel.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Another classic. I’m embarrassed to say it, but this is my first year actually finishing this one. It’s quick to read, and everyone needs to read the classic, even if we’ve known the plot for our whole lives.
Christmas with Anne by L.M. Montgomery. Such a good compilation of short stories. I heard about it from Janssen, who blogs at everydayreading.com she shared this on her Christmas book list. I loved it, and it’s even better if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan!
Printed Letter Bookshop by Katherine Reay. Another one that isn’t specifically Christmas, but happens around the holidays and is such a good, romantic, book lovers read.
Gideon’s Gift by Karen Kingsbury. This is a short one, but packs a powerful punch. Such a beautiful and sweet story.
The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans. My family read this one growing up. It’s another short, but powerful one. Such a special book!
Sarah’s Song by Karen Kingsbury. Another one recommended to me. A quick read, but I really enjoyed it. Definitely a unique storyline, but a sweet love story.
The Christmas Train by David Baldacci. This was a fun and interesting love story. The setting is modern day, but about people taking a train across the country. Now I really want to travel by train some time.
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. Not specifically Christmas, but I loved this book! It is all about hygge. If you’re wondering, here’s a definition of hygge: quality of coziness and comfort that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (considered a defining characteristic of Danish culture). Really interesting and just cozy!
Although I wouldn’t say these are in any particular order, the first several are definitely the highest on my list of recommendations.
