My husband actually recently found this recipe and we just thought it was your typical french toast casserole until we tasted it. We were shocked when we first bit into it because it literally tasted just like Kneaders french toast which we both love. The whipped cream and strawberries make it ten times better so I highly suggest making sure you add those to the casserole. Our 2 boys love it as much as we do and it has become a favorite in our home. The best part is, it is so easy to make and it can all be prepped the night before so all you have to do is put it in the oven first thing in the morning.
Kneaders Copycat French Toast Casserole
Ingredients
French Toast Casserole
- 1/2 loaf french bread
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 6 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp cinnamon divided
- 1 tbsp brown sugar for topping
- 1 pinch salt
- halved strawberries optional as a topping
Whipped Cream
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
French Toast Casserole
- Cut french loaf into cubes and set aside (best if done the night before so the bread can dry out)
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees and spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray.
- In a small sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat and once it is melted add the brown sugar until completely dissolved. Once it is completely smooth pour into the 9×13 pan.
- Put the bread cubes into pan and distribute evenly over the butter and brown sugar mixture.
- In a medium bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Then pour mixture evenly over the bread cubes in the pan.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1 tsp of cinnamon on top as well as the 1 tbsp of brown sugar.
- Bake in oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven, let cool for 5-10 minutes before adding whipped cream and strawberries on top.
Whipped cream
- Pour heavy cream in bowl and beat using a whisk attachment until stiff peaks are formed.
- Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Enjoy!
