For the last 3 years, I’ve done preschool as part of a co-op with other moms. We trade off teaching, and I usually teach about once every 5-6 weeks, depending on how many kids are in the class. There are so many amazing preschool resources, and I’ve wanted to write blog posts for the lessons I’ve done so I’m finally getting to it. Here are resources that I used to teach the kids about the Letter O and about kids’ safety. I’ve also included Letter O books and great books that help kids understand the importance of playing safe.
Letter “O” Books
We focused a lot of our lesson and activities on owls and octopuses. So here are several books that we enjoyed reading today.
Hello My Name is… How Adorabilis Got His Name
Good Thing You’re Not an Octopus!
Letter O Worksheets & Activities
After reading some books that started with the letter o, we did some of these fun activities. I used the free letter o worksheet packet by Becky who blogs at thisreadingmama.com to put together some counting, coloring, and hands-on learning activities. You can find her other free alphabet resources here.
Books About Kids’ Safety
As part of our lesson today, we also talked about a lot of kids’ safety scenarios. We read these books and also watched a few YouTube videos that talked about different aspects of helping kids stay safe at home, at school, and at play.
Videos to Teach about Kids’ Safety
We watched this video about fire safety, this one about emergency safety, one about handwashing safety, and one about pool safety. They’re really short and animated, but a lot of good information for little ones. The video Protect Yourself Rules, was also really good for helping kids learn about what to do when strangers approach them.
I’m looking forward to sharing more of the resources I’ve used for preschool on here, for those who are doing preschool at home.
Sincerely,
