Creating a family, summer bucket list can be as easy as:
- Sitting down with everyone.
- Grabbing snacks to make it more fun and to keep even the littlest ones’ attentions.
- Filling in the FREE bucket list I designed and shared below with the ideas you come up with together.
What are simple things to add to a family bucket list?
For age references, we have a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 1 year old. We tried to make sure our ideas were doable and fun for everyone. At first, the kids didn’t really know what to say. We started with ideas we, as parents thought would be fun, and then they started to chime in.
I find myself saying no, as a mom, more than I wish I did. Sometimes the answer is no for practical or safety reasons. Sometimes it’s just because I’m tired, not feeling fun, or wanting to keep things easy and simple. In an effort to say yes to things my kids ask to do all the time, I added a few to our bucket list. For example, “Can we play in the rain?”, “Can we get a lemonade at Chic-fil-A?”, “Can we stay at the pool for the whole day?”. These are fun things, especially to kids. However, as an adult I usually think, “that will be messy”, “that’s not healthy”, “that sounds exhausting, but also kind of fun”. These are perfect for adding to our list of fun things to say yes to one time.
By making a bucket list we have been more purposeful about the family time we have together. It’s been so much fun checking off the boxes on our list so far! All of us get really excited when we start planning one of these activities together.

I also love following Kelly Jensen on Instagram, and she is well-known for sharing about their family’s Live List (the name change, implying a celebration of life and making it more magical). Here’s a blog post that talks about the method they follow for creating one together, and some of they’re favorite memories. And I’ll link another article here about their Live List and more ideas.
