Ingredients

French Toast Casserole

  • 1/2 loaf french bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp cinnamon divided
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar for topping
  • 1 pinch salt
  • halved strawberries optional as a topping

Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

French Toast Casserole

  • Cut french loaf into cubes and set aside (best if done the night before so the bread can dry out)
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees and spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
  • In a small sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat and once it is melted add the brown sugar until completely dissolved. Once it is completely smooth pour into the 9x13 pan.
  • Put the bread cubes into pan and distribute evenly over the butter and brown sugar mixture.
  • In a medium bowl whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 tsp of cinnamon. Then pour mixture evenly over the bread cubes in the pan.
  • Sprinkle the remaining 1 tsp of cinnamon on top as well as the 1 tbsp of brown sugar.
  • Bake in oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven, let cool for 5-10 minutes before adding whipped cream and strawberries on top.

Whipped cream

  • Pour heavy cream in bowl and beat using a whisk attachment until stiff peaks are formed.
  • Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Enjoy!

Notes

*Make sure you cut up the bread beforehand and leave it out on your counter, so it is really dried out when it is time to bake and it doesn't turn out too soggy.
*You can prep and assemble the casserole and leave in fridge overnight and bake in the morning to save time.
